It was as much a change for Akio Toyoda as it was for Toyota Motor Corp. In unveiling the company's new mid-term business plan this week, the media-shy president flew solo at a news conference without the usual safety net of being flanked by his top brass. The roster of cars at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., next week has been cut by two. Barrett-Jackson has dropped a 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda recreation because the vehicle identification number on the car did not match the VIN on the title. A little legwork found that the car had been reported stolen in 1976.
The new Lotus Esprit - on schedule for launch in 2011 or 2012
The next Elise will probably be a development of the existing car, rather than anything radical and new. But the Esprit will be an all new V8 based on the new Evora chassis. It will be longer and wider than the Evora, but will still feature a mid-mounted engine and, in all probability, come as a convertible in time.
